Launching A Brand New Series

Sisters, with our New Year’s resolutions to become each and every day closer to the resemblance of Christ, why not dig a little deeper into the lives of some of the inspiring women found in the Bible? Certainly an overflowing source of encouragement, motivation and spiritual growth. The Lord set apart precious pages in the Bible to tell the world about their journeys of hope, faith and femininity. These notable women are our predecessors and have so much that we can learn from. By simply applying the softness and sacrificial love that they’ve expressed throughout their journeys into our very own lives, will inevitably elevate our own character. Yet again, reading through their experiences and stories will bring us peace, wisdom and clarity. There is so much for us to understand and discover. This study will open our eyes to what a woman of high value and quality truly means… A daughter of God.

“Women of note” series

“Women of Note: is the name of our new series to start off the year in beauty! We are going to portray seven women of the Old and New Testament. Each of them has a special gift that we can take away from.

The story of our first woman of note is found in the Book of Acts chapter 9. She has a great message to deliver to us. Her name is Tabitha in Hebrew, but also known as Dorcas, in Greek.

"She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy."
 - Proverbs 31:20

Dorcas/Tabitha

Dorcas was a believer living in Joppa. She was a faithful disciple of Christ and served Him with her kind heart, and good works. Dorcas was a seamstress. She tended to the people of her community, by making them lovely clothes and also by minestering to their soul. Her hands were those of the Master. Her authenticity was known all around Joppa hence why she was truly loved and appreciated. She helped out in any way she could. Always patient and cheerful, whatver she did was with a grateful and sincere heart. Dorcas found great joy in making other people happy.

This was her life, blessing others.

At one point in the story, she became sick and died. Her death brought despair and desolation over the people. Her passing was a huge loss.

The people of the church learned that Apostle Peter was nearby in Lydda. They sent messengers to him and asked him to quickly come to Joppa. When Peter arrived in the upper room, where Dorcas’ body was laying, the widowed told Peter about their beloved sister Dorcas and showed him the many garments she sewed for the community. They were inconsolable.

"Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me."
- Matthew 25:36

Peter’s heart was touched and asked everyone to leave the room. He knelt down and fervently prayed to God asking Him to restore Dorcas to life and health.

Then Peter said: “Tabitha Arise” .

She did.

What a miracle! God saw fit to bring her back to life because she was such an enormous blessing to others. God needed her to continue His work! This miracle brought many new believers into the church.

God sees our good works and blesses us. He may be silent, but He sees everything. Let us be just like Dorcas.

What are your takeaways from her story?
