She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

Proverbs 31:16-19

First of all, the virtuous woman is a hardworking woman, always looking for opportunities to bless those around her. Idleness, laziness, tardiness, indolence, inactivity are far from being characteristics which define the Proverbs 31 woman. On the contrary, those attributes grieve the Spirit of God. Thus, she sets honourable goals for herself and works towards their accomplishments with the grace of God. As a result, her every actions are focused towards giving glory to Him.

Go to the ant you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. - Proverbs 6:6

Work is a blessing, not a curse

This woman does not let her muscles and bones rust with inaction, doing so would not glorify God. Therefore, she does not complain when the time comes to complete her tasks. She knows that her labour is not only a blessing, a source of happiness, power and development, but also a safeguard against temptation. The Proverbs 31 woman is working together with God in her labour. She is fully aware that life means earnest work, responsibility and care-taking. God gifted us the earth with infinite treasures, and it is our duty to use them for His Glory.

This woman does just that.

 “Diligent labor keeps many, young and old, from the snares of him who “finds some mischief still for idle hands to do.” …While the hands are engaged in the most common tasks, the mind may be filled with high and holy thoughts.”

Our High Calling – Ellen G. White { 223.3 }

The virtuous woman uses the strength God has given her diligently. Not only is she educated morally and culturally, but physically as well. She is well acquainted with manual labour, whether it be agriculture, gardening, cooking, sewing etc. she can make a living out of these useful skills and provide for her family and those in need.  This woman also performs efficiently the many duties that pertain to homemaking, household economy and taking care of the sick.

The Proverbs 31 woman knows the value of money and time, and knows how to use them efficiently when the Lord puts a new opportunity on her path.

Obviously, she is blessed to bless others, which inevitably glorifies God.
